Layton Morris and his brother Mike grew up not knowing what it would be like to live in a normal home. With no running water or electricity in their home, no parents around to protect them, they quickly learned how to survive and depend only on each other.

  • Amazing book!!

    Omg, I’m not someone who likes to read. To be honest, I have never finished a book until now! My sister told me about this book and on a Friday night I was like “let’s give it a try” I started to read around 9:30pm and I literally had to put my phone down and make myself go to sleep around 2am. It was so good that I never wanted to stop! My husband woke up like 3 times to ask me what I was doing, I just couldn’t stop. Thanks for this amazing experience and I’m definitely reading the other ones!
  • I’m all “Winked” Out!

    This is a story that describes one of society’s deeply rooted issues with some realistic symptoms, but sugar-coated the solutions, the problem of domestic violence. Yes, people blame themselves and wonder what they did to provoke the abuse, but falling “madly in love” with someone is never the panacea. It takes years to heal with therapy and I feel this book made the solution way too simplistic. I also found the “added a wink” and “he said with a wink" way too distracting. I searched ‘wink’ and came up with 97 hits. It’s as if the characters all had nervous tics and something in their eyes. I do, however, appreciate the author’s attempt at addressing a social issue, but this book missed the mark for me.

    Read this book if you don't mind undeveloped characters based solely on good looks, endless professions of "you complete me" and "I love you so much it hurts", and an extremely predictable plot line.

    The broken series was the such a great series I wish there were more coming out. This is second book I bought by Kelley Elliot and so far all her books are worth it.

  • Not for adults

    If you're looking for quality writing for adults, look elsewhere. No character development at all, and poor novel construction. The sympathetic heroine made me want to punt her off a cliff, and the "hero" just...isn't. He smarmy and obnoxious and seems to have no honor. The time jumps with no actual detail of time and the entire story seems to be delivered with bad dialog as a way to advance the story forward. Note to self: always preview before you buy.

    Fairly decent story line but predictable. The language used is strong and really unnecessary. I was going to delete the story early into the book but I wanted to see if the author would bring the abusive boyfriend back into the story line and predictably so...
